Mr. Sujit Koley ....Advocate The electricity connection of the petitioner was disconnected by the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) on the allegation of electricity theft. final assessment order was issued, directing the petitioner to pay a sum of ₹5,01,610/-. It is undisputed that the petitioner has already remitted 50% of the assessed amount. Learned counsel appearing for the petitioner submits that, due to the disconnection of electricity, petitioner is experiencing significant hardship. A prayer has been made on
behalf of petitioner to liquidate outstanding dues in suitable installments.
In view of the above, this writ petition is disposed of with a direction upon the petitioner to deposit a sum of ₹80,000/- along with the reconnection charge within two weeks from the date of this order. Upon such deposit, the licensee shall restore the petitioner's electricity connection.
The remaining balance shall be paid in three equal installments. The first installment shall be paid within the first week of July 2025, the second within the first week of August 2025, and the final installment within the first week of September 2025.
It is further clarified that, upon restoration of the electricity supply, the petitioner shall continue to pay the current electricity bills regularly.
It is needless to mention that, in the event of any default in compliance with the terms of this order, WBSEDCL shall be at liberty to disconnect the petitioner's electricity connection without further reference to this Court.
Accordingly, WPA 6030 of 2025 is disposed of. Urgent photostat certified copy of this order, if applied for, be given to parties upon compliance of all necessary formalities.
