AGP Mr. Subrata Guha Biswas, Advocate ... for the State Citing various incidents of crime and criminal activities in the moving vehicles, a prayer has been made in the present public interest litigation to direct the respondent authorities to make necessary amendment in Chapter VII of West Bengal Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 and make it mandatory to install CCTVs in all motor vehicles registered and plying in West Bengal. When the matter is taken up today, learned counsel appearing for petitioner submits that he is confining the prayer to the public vehicles and seeks liberty to file appropriate representation in this regard to the competent authority.

Having regard to the aforesaid submission of learned counsel for petitioner and keeping in view the fact that the issue which the petitioner is raising needs consideration at the first instance by the competent authority, we dispose of the present petition granting

WPA(P) 137 of 2022 liberty to the petitioner to file an appropriate representation before the competent authority in respect of the issue raised in the above submission and on filing such representation, the competent authority will duly take a decision thereon in accordance with law. We make it clear that we have not expressed any opinion on the plea raised by the petitioner. Accordingly, the present petition is disposed of. [Prakash Shrivastava, C.J.] [Rajarshi Bharadwaj, J.]
