The petitioner prays for interest for delayed payment of the retiral benefits amounting to Rs.16,44,782/-. He retired from service on 31st August, 2021. The payment was made in two installments on the same day i.e. on 6th December, 2021 and also on 6th December, 2021 by two part. The issue of payment of interest on delayed payment of the retiral benefits has been discussed in detail by a Coordinate Bench of this Court in WPA 26240 of 2023 (Swapan Kumar Paul vs. The State of West Bengal and Ors. ) dated 18th December, 2023.

For the reasons stated in the aforesaid decision, let interest at the rate of 7% per annum be paid on and from 31st August, 2021 uptil 6th December, 2021, the date of payment of first installment and

from 31st August, 2021 uptil 6th December, 2021, the date of payment of second installment, within a period of one month from the date of communication of a copy of this order. In default of payment, the rate of interest shall stand increased to 9% per annum.

With the aforesaid directions, the writ petition is disposed of.

There will be no order as to costs.
