The father of the petitioner was employed in the Directorate of Forests in the Group-D post. He died in harness on February 3, 2022.

An application seeking appointment on compassionate ground was filed by the petitioner. Though a three-member screening committee was constituted for ascertaining the financial condition of the family of the deceased in July 2023, but the petitioner alleges that no further steps have been taken. Several representations were made by the petitioner but there is no response to the same. 4.

The Chief Conservator of Forests, South-East Circle by a communication dated August 10, 2023 forwarded all relevant documents in connection with the prayer of the petitioner seeking appointment on compassionate ground to the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & Head of Forest Force. The matter has not proceeded further.

Prayer has been to direct the authority to consider the petitioner's application seeking appointment on compassionate ground.

None appears on behalf of the respondents.

As it appears that the prayer of the petitioner seeking compassionate appointment is pending consideration before the respondent authority, accordingly, no useful purpose will be served by keeping the writ petition pending.

The instant writ petition stands disposed of by directing the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests to take a decision on the petitioner's prayer strictly in accordance with the prevailing rules at the earliest but positively within a period of eight weeks from the date of communication of this order. The fate of the petitioner's application shall be made known to him. 9.

The authority shall keep in mind that appointment on compassionate ground is required to be considered on urgent basis and ought not to be kept pending for an indefinite period of time. 10.

Parties to act on the basis of the server copy of this order duly downloaded from the official website of this Court.

Certified copy of this order, if applied for, shall be made available to the parties.
