The petitioner is in custody for one year six months and till date only one witness has been partly examined out of the 11 witnesses cited by the prosecution. Learned advocate for the State opposes the prayer for bail.

Having considered the gravity of the offence, I direct the learned trial court to expedite the process of examination of the witnesses. The prosecution would examine a substantial number of witnesses within the next six months particularly the seizure list witnesses. At this stage, I am not inclined to enlarge the petitioner on bail.

Hence, the prayer for bail of the petitioner is Rejected.

The petitioner would be at liberty to approach this court after the aforesaid time period is over. Accordingly, CRM (M) 898 of 2026 is dismissed. Parties to act on a server copy of this order duly collected from the official website of the Hon'ble High Court, Calcutta.
