None appears on behalf of the Municipality.

The petitioner is a senior citizen. She applied for obtaining water connection before the South Dum Dum Municipality by filing application on 6th February, 2024. Learned advocate appearing for the petitioner submits that the representative of the Municipality inspected the premises on 19th February, 2024 but thereafter there is no progress with regard to the installation of the water pipe line.

Prayer has been made for supplying water connection to the petitioner's premises at the earliest.

As it appears that the application for water connection filed by the petitioner has been processed partially and inspection was conducted, accordingly, the Municipality ought to take further steps to dispose of the application filed by the petitioner. The report of inspection mentioning the subsequent steps to be taken by the petitioner for obtaining the water connection ought to be made known to the petitioner.

In the event the Municipality rejects the prayer of the petitioner, the same shall also to be communicated to her. The Municipality ought not to sit tight over the said application without disclosing its fate to the petitioner.

The Chairman of the Municipality is, accordingly, directed to take further necessary steps to process the application for water connection filed by the petitioner in accordance with law. If any objection is raised by any of the parties, the same shall also be considered and decided by the Municipality.

Steps shall be taken in the matter at the earliest, but positively within a period of six weeks from the date of communication of this order.

In the event the Municipality is agreeable to grant water connection to the petitioner, then the formalities that are required to be complied with by the petitioner shall be communicated to her.

The writ petition stands disposed of.

Urgent certified photocopy of this order, if applied for, be supplied to the parties expeditiously on compliance of usual legal formalities.
