The petitioners' case is that they were convicted for life and are serving their life sentence. The first petitioner has undergone 18-odd years and the second petitioner 19-odd years in imprisonment. They pray for premature release. 2.

Learned counsel for the State has obtained instruction from the Officer-in-charge, Law Cell, Directorate of Correctional Services, West Bengal wherefrom it appears that the proposal for premature release of the petitioners was placed before the State Sentence Review Board in the year 2022 but recommendation was refused. The proposal has again been placed before the Board in April 2025 and information has been sought for from the investigating agency. The report from the agency is awaiting.

After hearing all the parties, I dispose of the writ petition by directing the State Sentence Review Board to take a decision in the petitioners' case at the earliest. The decision of the Board shall be communicated to the petitioners by the second

respondent.
