Learned counsel for the petitioner submits that the petitioner's electricity meter was stolen by some miscreants and, as a consequence, the petitioner was compelled to apply for installation of a new meter to cater to the electricity connection enjoyed by the petitioner at the premises. However, although the petitioner is agreeable to bear the necessary costs therefor, the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) has not taken any steps in that regard.

Learned counsel for the WBSEDCL hands over a copy of a communication dated February 28, 2023, from which it is indicated that although the WBSEDCL personnel visited the premises on a

particular date, the shop room of the petitioner was found to be closed, for which no inspection could be held.

In view of the issue being simple and being able to be resolved easily, there is no need of keeping the writ petition pending further.

Accordingly, WPA No. 7520 of 2023 is disposed of by directing the WBSEDCL to hold an inspection for the purpose of ascertaining the necessary estimates for installation of a new meter to continue the electricity connection of the petitioner.

Such inspection shall be held within a fortnight from date with prior notice to the petitioner. Upon such inspection being held and within a week thereafter, the WBSEDCL shall raise a bill indicating the estimates of costs to be paid by the petitioner for such purpose. Upon payment of such costs and compliance of necessary formalities by the petitioner, the WBSEDCL shall install the new meter within a week from the date of compliance of such formalities. There will be no order as to costs.

Urgent photostat certified copies of this order, if applied for, be made available to the parties upon compliance with the requisite formalities.
