The petitioner seeks a domestic electricity connection.

Learned counsel appearing on behalf of the petitioner submits that the petitioner deposited the amount quoted by the Calcutta Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) Limited on July 12, 2024.

Learned counsel for CESC Limited submits that the electricity connection could not be effected due to resistance from respondent nos. 4 and 5.

On behalf of respondent no. 4, it is submitted that the premises in question is owned by his son, who has not been impleaded as a party to the present writ petition. It is further contended that the electricity connection should not be drawn from the common meter board, which is currently under the occupation of his son.

This Court does not find merit in the objection raised by respondent no. 4.

It is well settled that the grant of an electricity connection does not, in any manner, confer any right, title, or interest over the property in question. Nor does it alter the nature or character of the property. In view of the above, this writ petition is disposed of with a direction to CESC Limited to effect the electricity connection to the petitioner's premises within a period of one month from the date of this order, subject to the petitioner's compliance with any additional formalities, if required.

The Officer-in-Charge of Metiabruz Police Station is directed to provide necessary assistance to the officials of CESC Limited for the purpose of effecting the electricity connection. The police authorities are granted liberty to break open any padlock, if necessary, for the implementation of this order. The cost of police assistance shall be borne by the petitioner.

Accordingly, WPA 7830 of 2025 is disposed of. Urgent photostat certified copy of this order, if applied for, be supplied to the learned advocates for the parties on usual undertakings.
