The Executive Officer, Murshidabad Jiagunj Panchayat Samity shall dispose of the representation of the petitioner in accordance with law. The petitioner prays for extension of settlement of ferry ghat by a period of 2 months 15 days. The petitioner submits that he has paid the entire lease rent for 10 months. As there was a litigation pending, the ferry ghat was not handed over to the petitioner. As such, the petitioner could not operate the ferry ghat for 2 months 15 days.

While deciding the matter, the petitioner will be heard. If it is found that the petitioner had actually not been handed over the ferry ghat within the time prescribed and there was a delay of 2 months 15 days, although the prescribed authority had accepted the lease rent for the entire period, steps shall be taken for extension in accordance with law. If the contention of the petitioner is not found to be incorrect, necessary order shall be passed.

It is expected that the authority will decide the issue within April 10, 2023 as the lease expires on April 14, 2023. As no affidavits have been called for, the allegations against the state respondents are deemed to be denied. Accordingly, the writ petition is disposed of. However, there will be no order as to costs.
