The petitioner is the existing lease holder in respect of the Kanchantala Ferry Ghat under Tehatta-1 Block. Naida Zilla Parishad has issued a notice inviting e-auction for the lease period 1st April, 2024 to 31st March, 2025.

The petitioner seeks renewal of his lease agreement.

The prayer of the petitioner cannot be accepted because the auction in question is required to be conducted not only for the purpose of maintaining transparency but also for generating revenue for the

local body. Renewal of existing lease cannot be made mechanically.

In view of the above, the prayer made by the petitioner for renewal of the lease agreement cannot be allowed.

The writ petition, accordingly, fails and is hereby dismissed.
