The petitioner seeks compassionate appointment. 2.

By a communication dated September 12, 2025 issued by the Joint Secretary, Public Works Department, Government of West Bengal addressed to the Superintending Engineer, Western Circle-I, Public Works Directorate, it was intimated that the department has approved the prayer of the petitioner for compassionate appointment in the Group-D post. Her service has been placed under the control of the Superintending Engineer.

Allegation of the petitioner is that till date the appointment letter has not been issued to her. 4.

Learned counsel for the State has obtained instruction from the Deputy Superintendent of Police, DIB, Purba Bardhaman signed June 21, 2026 which mentions that the process of police verification is undergoing; and that once the verification process gets over, necessary steps may be taken.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police has

mentioned in the report that at the stage of police verification, it has been found that the petitioner, while submitting her application seeking appointment, mentioned her Higher Secondary qualification in addition to her Madhyamik qualification. The petitioner has requested the authority to consider her Madhyamik pass qualification and not her Higher Secondary qualification.

Be that as it may, as it appears that the process of verification is still continuing, accordingly, the instant writ petition is disposed of with the observation that the authority shall take steps to conclude the verification process in accordance with law at the earliest, keeping in mind that the matter relates to compassionate appointment which is to be considered on emergency basis. 7.

All parties are to act on the server copy of this order duly downloaded from the official website of this Court.

Certified copy of this order, if applied for, shall be made available to the parties.
