Pleader with Mr. Somnath Naskar, Advocate ... for the State (on virtual mode) The issue raised in the present petition filed in public interest is pertaining to construction of electric crematorium at Nandakumar Block.

Learned counsel for the State has produced in Court today a copy of the LOI-cum-Award of Contract dated August 27, 2021 whereby the work order for construction of electric crematorium has been allotted to successful bidder and the work is to commence from September 1, 2021. The expected period stipulated for completion of work is 180 days.

In view of the aforesaid allotment, the prayer made in the present petition has been rendered infructuous. At this stage the learned counsel for the petitioners pointed out that on account of dilapidated condition of existing burning ground, the bodies are being cremated just along the road side.

WPA 7051 of 2020 The learned counsel for the State submitted that immediate steps shall be taken to make the existing burning ground accessible to the residents of area to enable them to use the place for cremation of the dead bodies, till such time the electric crematorium is constructed.

Accordingly, the present petition is disposed of, however, with liberty to the petitioners to move appropriate application in case the work is not completed.
