The petitioner filed an application for change of her surname "Saha" to "Mishra" in all his educational credentials before the Board of Secondary Education. His surname is required to be changed and he made such endeavor initially without filing any application in the prescribed format of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.
The President of ad hoc committee on West Bengal Board of Secondary Education heard the petitioner in compliance with an order passed by this Court in a writ application and directed the petitioner to file an application for change of surname in the prescribed Form along with all requisite documents.
Learned Advocate for the petitioner submit that on 12th March, 2021 under the covering letter of the learned Advocate for the petitioner all such papers and prescribed Form were filed before the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. Prayer before this Court is to take an immediate decision as the petitioner is a student and
he has to take admission in other educational course in the month of July, 2021.
Learned Advocate for the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education Ms. Koyeli Bhattacharya has submitted, due to pandemic situation normal work of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education cannot be done now and it is difficult to take a decision in this regard immediately.
In such situation, I direct the appropriate authority of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education to take a decision in this regard i.e. the change of surname of the petitioner within 30th September, 2021 and to intimate the same to the petitioner.
If the petitioner wants to make any application for his admission in any educational institution, as has been submitted on his behalf today, in the month of July, 2021 he is granted liberty to enclose a certified copy of this order for his purpose to show his efforts to change of his surname.
With the above direction, this matter is disposed of.
