For the College Service Commission Petitioner submits that his father was a field worker in Uttar Banga Krishi Vidyalaya, who died in harness on May 20, 2014. The petitioner suggests that he applied before the University for his compassionate appointment on 19th August, 2014. Thereafter, he again applied on September 16, 2016, in a prescribed proforma. Since those applications were not considered, he made a representation before the University authorities through his lawyer on February 28, 2022.

An application for compassionate appointment should not be kept pending for an indefinite period. Such delay defeats the very object of providing immediate financial assistance to the family of the

deceased.

I am of the opinion that this writ petition should be disposed of by giving a direction upon respondent no.5 to consider the case for compassionate appointment of the petitioner in accordance with law within a period of six weeks from the date of communication of this order. The decision of respondent no.5 shall be communicated to the petitioner within two weeks thereafter.

The petitioner should be heard by respondent no.5 before taking such decision.

Accordingly, WPA No.9348 of 2022 is disposed of. Parties are directed to act on the server copy of this order.
