Mr. Shekhar Pal, Mr. Krishna Prasad Majumdar.

... for the Petitioner.

Mr. Subhabrata Datta, Mr. Sanatan Panja.

... for the State.

Mr. Sanjib Bandyopadhyay.

... for the Respondent Nos.6 to 10.

The petitioner alleges that the police authorities have failed and neglected to take steps on the basis of the complaint lodged before the Officer-in-Charge, Tehatta Police Station on May 14, 2022.

There are allegations against the eldest son-in-law and the daughters. The allegations are of forgery, physical torture, criminal intimidation and threat. The police authorities, being the investigating agency ought to look into the complaint and proceed in accordance with law, on the basis thereof.

Under such circumstances, the Officer-in-Charge, Tehatta Police Station is directed to dispose of the complaint of the petitioner dated May 14, 2022 and take steps as may be required, if the authority is of the view that there are allegations of commission of cognizable offences. The merits of the allegations are not gone into by this Court. The police authority shall investigate in a free, fair and independent manner in order to unearth the truth.

Accordingly, the writ petition is disposed of. However, there will be no order as to costs.

All the parties are directed to act on the basis of the server copy of this order.
