The petitioner is aggrieved as his passport has been impounded.

The learned Additional Solicitor General submits that the passport of the petitioner was impounded for reasons. The petitioner has preferred an appeal and the appeal may be directed to be disposed of.

The Chief Passport Officer, before whom the appeal has been wrongly filed, shall transfer the records to the Additional Secretary, External Affairs, Government of India, who is the appellate authority and the said appeal shall be disposed of within a period of two months from the date of receipt of the records.

A reasoned order will be communicated to the petitioner. A virtual hearing may be given to the petitioner. The writ petition is, thus, disposed of.

There shall be no order as to costs.

Parties are directed to act on the basis of the server copy of this order.
