Mr. Indranil Halder ..for the petitioner Mr. Debanjan Mukherjee ..for CESC Limited The petitioner's request for an electricity connection on the first floor of premises No. 16, Ramtanu Bose Lane, Kolkata - 700006, has been rejected by the Calcutta Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) on the ground of load splitting of the concerned meter. The petitioner submits that he resides separately on the first floor of the premises, while his son and his family reside on the second floor.

In view of the foregoing, I am of the opinion that the matter ought to be adjudicated by the Grievance Redressal Officer of CESC Limited.

Accordingly, this writ petition is disposed of with a direction to the concerned Grievance Redressal Officer of CESC Limited to decide the matter within a period of one month from the date of communication of this order. The Grievance Redressal Officer shall afford an opportunity of hearing to the petitioner and his son before passing an appropriate order.

If it is found that the petitioner and his son reside separately for all practical purposes, the Grievance Redressal Officer shall direct that a separate electricity connection be granted to the petitioner.

Accordingly, WPA 10478 of 2025 is disposed of. Urgent photostat certified copy of this order, if applied for, be supplied to the learned advocates for the parties on usual undertakings.
