Affidavit-of-service filed on behalf of the petitioner is taken on record.

Matter is heard in presence of the learned advocates representing the petitioner and the State respondents. 3.

Learned advocate representing the petitioner submits that father of the petitioner was brutally assaulted on 6th May, 2026 while he was about to park his car at Dakshinapan market complex in the evening.

Expressing dissatisfaction with regard to the steps taken by the concerned police authority after complaint was lodged on 6th May, 2026, petitioner has approached this Court with the present writ petition with a prayer to apprehend the accused person immediately and for preserving CCTV footage of the alleged incident. 5.

Mr. Suryaneel Das, learned Additional Government Pleader representing the State respondents has filed a communication dated 11th June, 2026 of the Officer-inCharge, Lake Police Station, Kolkata along with certain documents and same are taken on record. Copy of the said communication dated 11th June, 2026 is made over to the learned advocate representing the petitioner.

From the said communication dated 11th June, 2026, it appears that based on the complaint lodged by the petitioner a criminal prosecution was initiated being Lake Police Station Case No.87 of 2026 dated 6th May, 2026 under certain provisions of BNS, 2023.

It further appears from the said communication that investigation has commenced in connection with the aforesaid criminal prosecution and an accused person was apprehended on 3rd June, 2026. However, the accused person obtained bail and it is also disclosed in the communication that the bail is valid till 29th September, 2026.

In view of the steps taken by the police authorities as disclosed in the communication dated 11th June, 2026, at this stage, no purpose would be sub-served in keeping this writ petition pending.

However, concerned police authority is directed to expedite the investigation in connection with the aforesaid criminal prosecution and take the same to its logical conclusion at an early date by submitting report before the jurisdictional Magistrate.

10. Concerned police authorities are also directed to preserve CCTV footage of the alleged incident of assaulting father of the petitioner on 6th May, 2026.

11. Writ petition stands disposed of.

12. However, petitioner shall be at liberty to approach the jurisdictional Magistrate, if occasion so arises in future.

13. Urgent photostat certified copy of the order, if applied for, be given to the parties upon usual undertakings. (SAUGATA BHATTACHARYYA, J.)
