Mr. Shibaji Kumar Das Ms. Rupsa Sreemani .... for the petitioner Mr. Tarak Karan .... for the State The limited prayer of the petitioner is that a statutory appeal filed by the petitioner from a decision of the West Bengal Medical Council dated 22nd April, 2022, removing the name of the petitioner from the Register of Medical Practitioners, be expeditiously disposed of.

The impugned order of the WBMC makes it clear that an appeal from the order shall lie to the local Government from every decision of the Council under Section 26 of the Bengal Medical Act, 1914. Admittedly, an appeal was filed by the petitioner on 11th May, 2022. Upon considering the relevant documents, the petitioner's removal from the Register of Medical Practitioners is for six months. Six months would expire on 21st October, 2022. Hence, the petitioner has a good ground for praying a direction on the appellate body to dispose of the appeal as expeditiously as possible. WPA 10573 of 2022 is accordingly disposed of with the direction on the respondent No. 1 being the

Principal Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare to dispose of the pending appeal which has also been received by the respondent within a reasonable period of time but preferably within 22nd July, 2022. It is made clear that the petitioner shall not contribute to any further delay in the disposal of the appeal.

The writ petition is disposed of.
