The learned advocate representing the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) submits that the petitioner was a tenant of one Ramprasad Ghosh. Subsequently, the property was acquired by respondent no. 6.

The petitioner had been receiving electricity supply through a meter registered in the name of Ramprasad Ghosh.

However, it is alleged by WBSEDCL that, at the behest of respondent no. 6, the connection under Ramprasad Ghosh's name was disconnected.

It is undisputed that the petitioner is in settled possession of the relevant shop and operates his business from the said premises.

In light of the foregoing, I am of the opinion that the petitioner is entitled to obtain an electricity connection in his own name, notwithstanding any objections raised by respondent no. 6.

Accordingly, I dispose of this writ petition, granting the petitioner liberty to apply to WBSEDCL for an electricity connection in his name. Upon submission of such an application, WBSEDCL shall provide the connection within three weeks from the date of communication of this order, subject to the fulfillment of all requisite formalities.

The Officer-in-Charge of Pandua Police Station is directed to extend necessary assistance to WBSEDCL officials in effectuating the connection, with all associated costs to be borne by the petitioner. Accordingly, WPA 11479 of 2025 is disposed of.

Urgent photostat certified copy of this order, if applied for, be supplied to the learned advocates for the parties on usual undertakings.
