In connection with allegations of unauthorized use of electricity, the domestic electricity connection of the petitioner was disconnected on May 13, 2025. A provisional bill amounting to ₹5,54,499/- was subsequently issued.

The Calcutta Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) Limited contends that the petitioner accepted this provisional bill by signing a letter dated May 15, 2025. However, learned counsel representing the petitioner disputes this assertion.

Notwithstanding this disagreement, the petitioner seeks a lenient payment plan to discharge the provisional liability and has prayed for suitable installment arrangements.

In consideration of the above, and without delving into the merits of other aspects of the case, this writ petition is disposed of with the following directions: The petitioner shall pay 50% of the total amount of ₹5,54,499/- within seven days from the date of this order, along with any applicable incidental charges for reconnection. Upon receipt of this payment, CESC Limited is directed to restore the petitioner's electricity connection forthwith.

The remaining balance shall be paid in ten equal monthly installments, each due in the first week of the successive months beginning July 2025. The petitioner is further directed to continue making timely payments of current electricity bills as issued by CESC Limited. In the event of any default in payment in accordance with the terms set forth in this order, CESC Limited shall be at liberty to disconnect the electricity supply of the petitioner.

Accordingly, WPA 11644 of 2025 is disposed of. Urgent photostat certified copy of this order, if applied for, be supplied to the learned advocates for the parties on usual undertakings.
