The instant writ petition has been filed, inter alia, praying for a direction upon the respondents to issue Schedule Caste (SC) Certificate.

Learned advocate representing the petitioner has drawn attention of this Court to the document appearing at page 28 of the writ petition and would submit that the petitioner has duly made an application on 22nd May, 2026 for grant of SC Certificate. Unfortunately, the respondents have not granted such certificate and have, in fact, refused the same.

The State is represented. Learned advocate for the State would submit that the document appearing at page 28 is a Form of an Online application for SC/ST Certificate, the same does not constitute an order of
WPA 12196 of 2026 rejection. According to him, the petitioner did not submit any supporting documents and, as such, the application has been kept pending.

Having heard the learned advocates appearing for the respective parties and though it does not appear from the materials on record that there is an order of rejection, however, at the same time, having regard to the submissions made by the learned advocate for the State that the petitioner's application is pending, I am of the view that at this stage it would only be appropriate to direct the State to take a decision on the petitioner's application as expeditiously as possible preferably within a period of seven days from the date of communication of this order.

The petitioner shall be at liberty to submit additional documents with the respondent no.4 within 8th June, 2026. If such documents are submitted, the concerned respondent being respondent no.4 shall decide the said application and dispose of the same by passing a reasoned order within the aforesaid period.

With the above observations and directions, the writ petition being WPA 12196 of 2026 stands disposed of.

All parties, including the respondent no.4 shall act on the basis of the server copy of this order duly downloaded from the official website of this Court. (Raja Basu Chowdhury, J.)
