The wife of a life convict has filed the instant writ petition seeking premature release of her husband who is in custody for nearly 20 years.

Learned advocate representing the State respondents has obtained instruction from the Officer-inCharge of the Law Cell, Directorate of Correctional Services, West Bengal dated 17th June, 2025 which mentions that the proposal of the husband of the petitioner for premature release was placed before the State Sentence Review Board on 06 June, 2022 and considering all observation, the premature release was not recommended. The name of the petitioner's husband has

again been short-listed for recommendation and for placing proposal before the review board. The same is pending consideration.

The Board is directed to consider the prayer of the petitioner for premature release of her husband. 5.

The decision of the Board shall be communicated to the petitioner immediately after the same is taken. 6.

While taking a decision the Board shall take into consideration the judgment delivered by the Hon'ble Supreme Court on February 18, 2025 in the matter of Suo Motu Writ Petition (Crl.) No. 4 of 2021 in Re: Policy Strategy for grant of bail with Special Leave Petition (Crl.) No. 529 of 2021.

The writ petition stands disposed of.
