Petitioner Mr. Debarshi Brahma, ... for the petitioner Ms. Sukanya Bhattacharyya, Mr. Pratick Bose, ... for the State This is an application for an expeditious disposal of the NDPS Special Case No. 50 of 2019 under Sections 21(c)/23 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and Section 11(1)(a) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, pending before the learned Judge, Special Court, Nadia at Krishnagar.

It has been submitted by the learned advocate for the petitioner that the charge sheet, in this case, has been filed on September 20, 2019. The case is now at the evidence stage, and the date for the examination of the P. W. 3 has been fixed on September 21, 2021.

In this pandemic situation, it is not expected of the learned Judge in the Court below to proceed with the trial at a normal pace.

However, keeping in mind to the innocuous nature of the prayer and having regard to the fact that the petitioner is in custody for about 880 days, the revisional application is disposed of with a direction upon the learned Judge, Special Court, Nadia at Krishnagar, to make an endeavour to expedite the trial and conclude the same as early as possible, preferably within a period of one year from the resumption of the normal functioning of the Court, without granting any unnecessary adjournment to either of the parties.

The revisional application being C.R.R. 1670 of 2021 is, thus, disposed of.

Urgent photostat certified copy of the order, if applied for, be given to the parties upon compliance with all necessary formalities.
