The petitioners are the Junior Superintendents of the University of Calcutta. The petitioner no.1 is a member of Scheduled Caste community whereas the petitioner no.2 is a member of Scheduled Tribe community.

The petitioners are alleging that the University is not following the reservation policy in the matter of their promotion to the next higher post.

The petitioners are at liberty to file a comprehensive joint representation for consideration and redressal of their such grievances within a period of seven days from date before the Registrar of the University, the respondent no.3 herein. The said respondent within three weeks from the date of receipt of such representation shall dispose it of in accordance with law, after giving an opportunity of hearing to petitioners and shall communicate the decision to them. It is made clear that this Court has not gone into the merit of the claim and counter-claim of the parties; it is for the respondent no.3 to decide the referred issue independently. WPA 12587 of 2025 is thus disposed of without any order as to costs.
