In re : Manik Singh @ Maniyal Singh @ Manial Singh, ... Petitioner Mr. Shibaji Kumar Das, Ms. Rupsa Sreemani, ... for the petitioner Mr. Avik Ghatak, learned advocate has been requested to appear in this matter on behalf of the State. Let the appointment of Mr. Ghatak be regularised. The petitioner seeks expeditious disposal of the N.D.P.S. Case No. 33 of 2020, pending before the learned Additional Sessions Judge, 1st Court, Hooghly.

It has been submitted by the learned advocate for the petitioner that the petitioner is in custody for more than a year. It has further been submitted that the next date has been fixed for consideration of charge.

I do not see any delay in conducting the trial, particularly in this pandemic situation, the learned Judge in the Court below is not expected to proceed with the trial at a normal pace. However, keeping in mind the period of detention already undergone by the petitioner, the revisional application is disposed of with a direction upon the learned Additional Sessions Judge,

1st Court, Hooghly, to make an endeavour to expedite the trial and conclude the same within a period of one and a half years from the commencement of the evidence.

The revisional application being C.R.R. 1714 of 2021 is, thus, disposed of.

Urgent photostat certified copy of this order, if applied for, be given to the parties upon compliance with all necessary formalities.
