1. The petitioner filed this writ petition seeking direction upon the respondent nos. 2 and 3 herein not to discontinue his regular service so that he can do his duties.

It is the specific case of the petitioner that the petitioner was appointed as Pump operator by the Executive Engineer, Burdwan Division, PHE (Mechanical), Purba Bardhaman, the respondent no. 2 for looking after the pump station for a period of 3 months. Thereafter, he was terminated suddenly without paying any salary.

3. Learned counsel appearing on behalf of the State submits that this writ petition is not maintainable as contractual appointment was

given by the Panchayat Authority. He is not entitled for regular service.

Upon hearing the learned counsels representing the respective parties, it appears that the appointment was made to look after the pump station for a limited period. That period is already over. Petitioner is not entitled for regularization of service, when he was engaged for a particular period of time on contractual basis.

5. With the above observations, the writ petition being WPA 13077 of 2025 is, thus, dismissed without any order as to costs.

6. Dismissal of the writ petition shall not prevent the writ petitioner to approach the authority concerned for payment of due wages/salary, if any. In turn, the concerned authority shall take appropriate steps for payment of wages/salary, if any, in favour of the petitioner in accordance with law.
