The petitioner is a Member of Indian National Congress, a political party. He claims to have been attacked by certain persons while moving from one place to another in the State for the purpose of the forthcoming Panchayat Election.

The petitioner has addressed a letter to the Joint Commissioner of Police (OSD), 14, Lord Sinha Road, Kolkata and Director of Security, West Bengal, Bhabani Bhaban, Alipore, Kolkata appealing for a personal security officer.

Mr. Sen, learned counsel for the State submits that the decision as regards security in such matter is taken normally by the Joint Commissioner of Police (Intelligence), Kolkata.

This Court, therefore, directs the said the Joint Commissioner of Police (Intelligence), 14, Lord Sinha Road, Kolkata-700071 to consider the writ petition itself as a request from the petitioner for security and take a suitable decision in the matter in terms of the

applicable rules and law within a period of 7 days from date from the receipt of a copy of this order. 5.

For the aforesaid purpose, let a server copy of this order along with a copy of the writ petition be placed before the Join Commissioner of Police (Intelligence), Kolkata by the petitioner.

The petitioner may also be heard in person by the Joint Commissioner of Police (Intelligence), Kolkata.

The instant writ petition shall stand disposed of. 8.

There shall be no order as to costs.

All parties are directed to act on a server copy of this order duly downloaded from the official website of this Court.
