(AB) Mr. Shuvro Prokash Lahiri ...... for the petitioner Ms. Rini Bhattacharyya ........for UOI Mr. Debapriya Gupta ........ for ISI The petitioner applied for getting admission in the Master of Statistics Programme for the year 2020 in the Indian Statistical Institute. At the time of participating in the selection process he disclosed himself to be a General Category student. His name appeared at serial No. 28 of the merit list. There were 14 vacancies in the General Category.

The petitioner thereafter obtained a certificate of the 'Economically Weaker Section' Category and applied before the authority for giving benefit to him under the reservation policy meant for Economically Weaker Section Category.

The prayer of the petitioner stood rejected by a communication dated 26th August, 2021 wherein it has been specifically mentioned that the request for change of status came after the admission portal was closed. As a matter of policy, data provided by the

candidates are treated as sacrosanct and there is no room to tamper with the same.

The reason given by the Institute for not permitting the petitioner to change his category does not appear to be unreasonable or arbitrary.

In view of the above, no relief can be granted to the petitioner in the instant case.

The writ petition stands dismissed.
