Mr. M. Sarkar ...... for the State Petitioner is in custody for more than two years. He submits there is slow progress in the trial of the case. Learned lawyer for the State opposes the prayer for bail. We have considered the materials on record. There are ample materials connecting the petitioner with alleged possession of narcotic substance i.e. 10 litres of codeine mixture. Hence, we are not inclined to grant bail to the petitioner on merits. With regard to the delay in trial, we note since rejection of bail by this court the charge has been framed and trial has commenced. Hence, we are not inclined to grant bail to the petitioner on the ground of delay too. However, we request the trial court to take prompt steps for conclusion of trial at an early date preferably within six months from the next date fixed for recording evidence without granting unnecessary adjournment.
