Ms. Rituparna Ghose Ms. Eshita Dutta ... For the State Learned counsel for the petitioner submits that the petitioner is in custody for 165 days. The petitioner lodged a complaint before the Block Development Officer on 8th August, 2023 alleging defalcation of Rs.1,48,63,704/- by the Ex Pradhan and others. She alleged that her signature was forged in several cheques for withdrawal of the said amount. further complaint was also made by the Block Development Officer on 22nd December, and investigation commenced. In course of investigation the petitioner was interrogated and the allegedly forged signatures of the petitioner in the cheques were sent to the Questioned Documents Examination Bureau for verification. Upon receipt of the report from the department, it was found that though signature of the petitioner was forged in some of

the cheques, some cheques were in fact signed/issued by her. The petitioner happens to be the Pradhan of Bahutali Gram Panchayat, Murshidabad. Learned counsel submits that the petitioner is a lady with two children to take care of. Learned counsel for the State opposes the prayer. I have considered the material on record. The case involves defalcation/misappropriation of huge amount of Government money.

Considering the material on record suggesting prima facie involvement of the petitioner in the alleged offence, prayer for bail is rejected at this stage.

The application for bail is disposed of.
