Heard learned counsels for the parties.

In turning down the bail prayer of the petitioner on 10th May, 2024, this Court has observed that the petitioner was on bail and after examination of 18 witnesses, he absconded, for which trial could not be proceeded with. The petitioner was arrested on 11th December, 2023 and is in custody since then.

Learned counsel for the State opposes the prayer. This Court is informed that examination of the investigating officer is in progress.

Considering the conduct of the petitioner and also since trial is at its fag end, this Court is not inclined to release the petitioner on bail lest he absconds again resulting in further delay in trial.

Accordingly, prayer for bail is rejected at this stage. The application for bail is thus disposed of.
