By this public interest writ petition, the petitioner highlights the acute shortage of drinking water in his locality as the only tubewell, which met the demand of more than 2000 people has not been functioning at present. In this regard, a representation has been given to all the respondents on 2nd March, 2023 and complaining that no action has been taken on the said representation, the petitioner has approached this Court.

Supply of drinking water is a necessity and if the citizens are deprived of drinking water, then it is a very serious issue.

Considering the importance of the grievance expressed, we direct the 5th respondent namely, the District Magistrate, South 24 Parganas
District to immediately look into the representation dated 2nd March, 2023, depute one of his officers to conduct a site inspection and ensure that the tubewell is repaired and water supply is restored in the locality.

This direction be complied with within a period of three weeks from the date of receipt of server copy of this order.

With the above directions, the writ petition stands disposed of.

No costs.
