The petitioner is an Associate Professor (Stage-IV) of the subject Anthropology at the Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan.

The petitioner is challenging the decision of the selection committee refusing his prayer for promotion to the post of Professor (Stage-V). The said decision was communicated to him by the Registrar (Acting) of the University, the respondent no.8 herein vide letter dated August 16, 2021.

Hearing of the matter was adjourned enabling Mr. Jha, learned advocate for the University, to take instruction from his client regarding the prayer of the petitioner but Mr. Jha has not yet received the said instruction. Be that as it may, in similar type of matters, it is the consistent stand of the University that the regular ViceChancellor since has taken charge, the University shall reconsider the prayer of the Associate Professors (Stage-IV) like the petitioner for promotion.

In this backdrop, the impugned communication dated August 16, 2021 is set aside.

The concerned authority of the University is directed to reconsider the prayer of the petitioner for promotion to the post of Professor (Stage-V) as expeditiously as possible in accordance with law.

WPA 14940 of 2025 is thus disposed of without any order as to costs.
