And In the matter of: Asit Saha .... Petitioner Mr. Shekhar Barman ...For the Petitioner The petitioner seeks an expeditious disposal of N Case No. 169 of 2018, pending before the learned Additional Sessions Judge, 6th Court, Barasat, North 24-Parganas.

The petitioner refers to an order dated December 9, 2019 passed in CRR 3597 of 2019, whereby a direction was given upon the learned Additional Sessions Judge in the Court below to make all efforts so that the whole proceeding can be concluded within a reasonable time. The petitioner suggests that despite the order, there has been no progress in the trial, till date, except examination of P.W. 2. In this pandemic situation, it is not expected that the learned Judge in the Court below shall proceed with the trial at a normal pace.

However, keeping in mind, the long detention of the petitioner, and the innocuous nature of the prayer, this application is disposed of with a direction upon the learned Judge in the Court below to make an endeavour to conclude the trial as early as possible, preferably within a period of one and half years from date without granting any unnecessary adjournments to the either of the parties. Accordingly, CRR 2027 of 2021 is disposed of. (Kausik Chanda, J.)
