The petitioner is an independent candidate contesting in the ensuing Panchayat Election. He has received a lot of threats from various persons against contesting in the elections. He has complained to the Joynagar Police Station, the higher police officials, and the Election Commissioner. The petitioner prays for security to be provided to ensure safe and secure campaigning and participation in the said elections.

Learned counsel for the State denies all the allegations made against the police.

Since the petitioner has stated on affidavit that he has been threatened on a regular basis, in the event of any further threat against participating in the election process or interfering with his campaign, the petitioner
shall complain in writing to the Joynagar Police immediately.

Joynagar Police shall send a police escort comprising of two constables for a day.

Joynagar Police shall also respond similarly on any further complaints of the petitioner as indicated hereinabove.

The petitioner shall also bear in mind that the police are required to attend large to a number of law and order responsibilities particularly in the light of the said ensuing elections.

With the aforesaid directions, the writ petition is disposed of.

There shall be no order as to costs.
