The petitioner complains that the New Town Police Station, Durgapur has not taken any steps pursuant to the complaint dated 24th June, 2023 regarding an attack on him, his wife and family members with bamboo sticks and rods.

It is also submitted that on the contrary, on the allegations and/or complaint of the private respondents New Township Police has registered FIR. The petitioner is a candidate contesting in the ensuing Panchayat Elections. 3.

Mr. Amitesh Banerjee, learned counsel for the State, submits that the allegations of the petitioner are incorrect. There is a long standing land dispute between the petitioner and the private respondents.

Be that as it may, the petitioner's complaint has been registered by the New Township Police as FIR No.101/2023 dated 24th June, 2023 under sections 341, 323, 354B, 379 and 34 of the IPC. Two persons have also been arrested in connection therewith.

It is also submitted that a counter complaint against the petitioner has resulted in FIR No.102/2023 dated 24th June, 2023. Investigation is on.

Since the petitioner is contesting in the ensuring Panchayat Election, let no coercive steps be taken against him in aid of the aforesaid FIRs until 15th July, 2023. Investigation may, however, go on.

In the event of any further threat received by the petitioner, he may make a formal complaint to the New Township Police Station.

The New Township Police shall thereupon depute two constables to secure the petitioner for a day. 9.

The petitioner may continue with his campaign in the election. Against any further complaints of the petitioner, appropriate and/or similar arrangements may be made by the New Township Police.

The petitioner shall also bear in mind that the police are required to attend to a large number of law and order responsibilities in the ensuing Panchayat Election. 11.

With the aforesaid directions, the writ petition is disposed of.

There shall be no order as to costs.
