Learned Counsel appearing for the petitioner submits as follows. The petitioner contested the last Panchayat election as an independent candidate. He filed the present writ petition apprehending that his life and liberty could be in danger in view of the threats and intimidations given to him to withdraw the nomination. Although the election is over now, he still apprehends that the local miscreants may cause some harm to him or to his family. Quite a tensed atmosphere prevails in the locality.

Learned Counsel for the State submits that the writ petition has become infructuous because the elections are over and nothing has happened to the present petitioner. I have heard learned counsels for the parties and have perused the writ petition.

It appears that the petitioner continues to apprehend that some harm may be caused by the local antisocial ailments because he had contested the last elections as an independent candidate.

In view of the above and in the interest of justice, I direct the respondent authorities to keep a strict vigil in the locality and ensure that no harm is done to the present petitioner.

The writ petition stands disposed of with these observations.
