In the matter of:- Sutrishna Basu Mr. Arindam Paul Ms. Afreen Begum .....for the petitioner Mr. D. Chatterjee Mr. Imran Ali Mrs. Ratna Ghosh .....for the State This is an application seeking an expeditious disposal of a proceeding in which a charge-sheet was submitted under Sections 342, 323, 506 and 34 of the Penal Code.

Let a copy of this application be served upon Mr. Imran Ali and Mrs. Ratna Ghosh, learned counsels, who are present in court today and who ordinarily appear on behalf of the State. Their engagement may be regularised in due course by the competent authority of the State. Learned counsel appearing on behalf of the petitioner submits as follows. The petitioner is the de facto complainant in this case. She lodged the present FIR on 31.10.2019. After submission of charge sheet, the matter has remained pending for no fault of the present petitioner. Long Dates are being fixed. In view of the above, a direction may be passed to expedite the proceeding.

Learned counsel on behalf of the State submits as

follows. No inordinate delay has taken place conducting the proceeding, especially considering the huge workload of cases pending before the learned trial Courts. For instance, there are accused who are undergoing custody trial for 3 or 4 years in respect of the charges under the NDPS Act.

I have heard the submissions of the learned counsels appearing on behalf of the petitioner and the State and have perused the revision petition. I do not find that any inordinate delay has been occasioned in this case. As such, no order is required to be passed to expedite the proceeding.

However, it is expected that the learned trial court would conclude the proceeding as expeditiously as possible without granting any unnecessary adjournment to any of the parties.

With these observations, the revisional application is disposed of.
