The petitioner is a shooter, being one of the members of the Howrah Rifle Club, and had a gun licence for keeping 3 NP Bore Fire Arms, 0.12 Bore DBBL gun (BRNO), permissible rifle .22 Bore Rifle (BRNO) and permissible Pistol, .32 Bore Pistol (FN Browning) at a time. However, when the petitioner applied for renewal of such licence, the State respondent is sitting tight over the matter.

Heard learned counsel for the parties.

Since the petitioner has already applied for a renewal of his gun licence, and has also given a representation for consideration of such application, as annexed at page-20 of the writ petition, the

purpose of justice would be sub-served if the respondent authorities are directed to process such application at the earliest.

Accordingly, WPA No. 17040 of 2023 is disposed of by directing the respondent nos. 2 and 3 to process the application for renewal of gun licence made by the petitioner, along with the representation annexed to the writ petition, as expeditiously as possible and to ensure that such decision is taken within three weeks from date.

There will be no order as to costs.

Urgent photostat certified copies of this order, if applied for, be made available to the parties upon compliance with the requisite formalities.
