This writ petition styled as a public interest litigation has been filed stating that proper attention should be given by the respondents to save the Kolkata Port, manage the waterways at the river Hooghly, prepare a land use policy for proper utilization of Port land and perform the statutory duties under the Major Port Trust Act, 1963.

From the orders passed in the writ petition from time to time we find that all that has been happened in this writ petition over the years is that the matter is getting adjourned either at the request of the petitioners or at the request of the

respondents and nothing has turned out of this writ petition. In our view, by efflux of time no useful purpose will be served by keeping this writ petition pending. Hence, we dispose of the writ petition by giving liberty to the petitioners to agitate their grievance afresh based on the materials which have been gathered subsequently on taking note of the situation which is prevailing as on date.

With the aforesaid observation, this writ petition is disposed of.
