Learned counsel appearing on behalf of the petitioner submits as follows. The petitioner was accused of cheating a sum of Rs.20,00,000/-. A case was registered on 19.03.2023. Since then, the Officer-in-Charge of Udaynarayanpur Police Station and the Investigating Officer of the case have been threatening and intimidating the petitioner. They have also been trying to extort money. Sometimes they would say that he has to pay Rs.5,00,000/- and sometimes 4,00,000/- within a particular time. Even, her mother was asked to come to the police station and wait for the entire day for taking back the two mobile phones seized. Friends and associates have also been tortured in similar fashion.

Learned counsel appearing on behalf of the State relies on the report and submits as follows. The allegations made in

the writ petition are denied. The petitioner is on bail in connection with the case. Soon, a report in final form would be submitted. The petitioner is trying to exert pressure on the investigating agency only to prevent them from doing their duty. The investigating agency does not have any right to ask for money even if it is to be paid to the victim. It shall be open to the petitioner to lodge any complaint to the police station regarding the actions of the police officers over email, which shall be acted upon in accordance with law. Let the investigation be done expeditiously and in accordance with law and under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Police, Howrah (Rural) District. The local police authorities shall keep a vigil at the locale and ensure that no breach of peace takes place. With these observations, the writ petition is disposed of. Urgent photostat certified copy of this order may be supplied to the parties expeditiously, if applied for. (Jay Sengupta, J.)
