The police authorities have submitted the police enquiry report indicating that no foul play had been detected regarding the death of the deceased Anjana Das. As has already been observed by this Court on an earlier occasion that before 2018, cases of accidental deaths/unnatural deaths would not be registered. An enquiry would be made on the basis of an inquest and an inquest report would be prepared and if no foul play or unnatural circumstances surrounding the death was found on enquiry, the case would be closed. Similarly, the same was done in this case. Subsequent to further directions of this Court on August 6, 2021, this Court directed the concerned police station to prepare an elaborate report indicating that the circumstances under which the mother of the petitioner met with the accident and succumbed to the injuries sustained

was due to the accident of burning and no foul play was found.

The Court believes that the report so filed shall suffice the requirements of the petitioner as prior to 2018 final reports were not filed before the Magistrate having jurisdiction in such cases, where no foul play was detected. A copy of the original report filed before this Court is kept on record and a copy of the report has been handed over by Mr. Deb Roy, learned Additional Government Pleader to the learned advocate for the petitioner, in order to enable the petitioner to proceed with the matter before the Life Insurance Corporation and the Life Insurance Corporation is expected to act on the basis of the said report under the circumstance narrated hereinabvoe.

The contempt application is disposed of.

The contempt proceeding is dropped.
