The petitioner prays for a direction on the State respondents, more particularly the respondent no. 3, being the Inspector General of Registration and Commissioner of Stamp Revenue to take expeditious steps to process the appointment of a permanent Muslim Marriage Registrar and Kazi for Hooghly.

Learned counsel appearing for the petitioner relies on two orders of a Coordinate Bench dated 1st July, 2021 and 28th January, 2022 in a writ petition and in a contempt to the order passed on 1st July, 2021 respectively, by which the District Magistrate, Hooghly was directed to take immediate steps in the matter of

forming a committee for filling up the post of a permanent Muslim Marriage Registrar.

Learned counsel appearing for the State submits that two of the five member committee remains to be appointed and intimation in this regard have been sent to different authorities in May, 2022. Counsel submits that no further steps have been taken after May, 2022.

WPA 19767 of 2022 is accordingly disposed of with a direction on the respondent no.3 being the Inspector General of Registration and Commissioner of Stamp Revenue to take immediate steps for the appointment of a permanent Muslim Marriage Registrar in the concerned district, preferably within a period of ten weeks from today.

Urgent photostat certified copy of this order, if applied for, be given to the parties on usual undertakings.
