Nawroz Rahber, Mr. Muhammad Jawwad ..for the Petitioners Mr. Nilotpal Chatterjee ..for the State In this public interest petition the petitioners have come up with the grievance that area within Motijheel, Covent lane, Police State-Entally has become a centre for selling contraband articles such as charas, ganja, alcohol and that the consumption of such substances takes place in the open area, as a result of which, the local residents are put to inconvenience.
Learned counsel for the State has filed the report in the form of affidavit disclosing action taken against the persons who are found involved in such activities. It has also been stated in the report that the police authorities are duty bound to take necessary action in accordance with law and that constant vigil is being maintained in the locality and to ensure piece night raids and anti crime patrols are being carried out on the regular basis.
Submission of learned counsel for the petitioners is that such activities are still continuing in the area
concerned.
The record reflects that the petitioners have filed the representation/complaint to the Commissioner of Police, Lalbazar, Kolkata on 26th October, 2021. Hence, we dispose of the present public interest petition directing the Commissioner of Police to duly consider the petitioners' grievance raised in the said complaint and to ensure appropriate steps to redress the grievance raised therein. The Commissioner of Police is also directed to take an appropriate decision on the said complaint within a period of two months from the date of receipt of a copy of this order.
The petition is accordingly disposed of.
