Mr. Partha Pratim Das Mrs. Manasi Roy ... for the State Learned Counsel appearing for the petitioner submits she is in custody for 67 days. She prays for bail. Learned Counsel appearing for the State opposes the prayer for bail.

We have considered materials on record. Statements of the witnesses prima facie disclose involvement of the petitioner and other co-accuseds in torturing the victim housewife over demands of dowry. As a result, she suffered unnatural death. In view of the aforesaid materials and gravity of the offence, we are not inclined to grant bail to the petitioner. Accordingly, prayer for bail is rejected.

We are informed minor children of the deceased house wife are with the petitioner. Superintendent of the concerned

Correctional Home shall take necessary steps so that the minors are handed over to the parental relations of the deceased lady. If parental relations are unwilling to take custody of the children they shall be placed before the Child Welfare Committee for care and protection.

Officer-in-Charge, Tehatta Police Station shall communicate the order to the Superintendent of the Correctional Home concerned as well as Child Welfare Committee for necessary steps.
