The petitioners submit that in spite of a complaint being lodged before the Commissioner of Police, Kolkata on July 30, 2024, no steps have yet been taken by the respondent police authorities till date. In the event, the complaint discloses a cognizable offence, the police authorities are dutybound to register a First Information Report. In view thereof, the writ petition is disposed of by directing the Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Kolkata, being the third respondent, either to take steps pursuant to the complaint dated July 30, 2024 or to forward the same to a competent authority for taking action on the basis of the

complaint lodged by the petitioners vide letter dated July 30, 2024. Needless to mention that if the said complaint discloses a cognizable offence, an F.I.R. is to be registered forthwith. If the concerned authority decides against registration of the F.I.R, the reasons therefor are to be communicated to the petitioners within a period of two weeks from the receipt of a server copy of this order.

There shall, however, be no order as to costs. Urgent photostat certified copy of this order, if applied for, be made available to the parties upon compliance of necessary formalities.
