The petitioners are aggrieved that the Kolkata Police has declined permission for holding indefinite demonstration at the statute of Mahatma Gandhi in Cental Kolkata. The petitioners claim that they have been wrongfully deprived of employment in the State Level Selection Test conducted in the year 2014 and 2020.

Since the petitioners seek to hold demonstration indefinitely with the likelihood of serious disruption of traffic, the police have refused to grant permission.

In the backdrop of the above, the petitioner shall apply afresh before the respondent no. 2/ Joint Commissioner of Police, West Bengal with a proposal to hold any demonstration or procession.

The Joint Commissioner of Police shall consider the petitioner's application, if it is going to be peaceful without the use of any loud speakers and on

condition traffic is not disturbed and no inconvenience whatsoever shall be caused to be a public at large. The demonstration shall be permitted only for a fixed period subject to fulfillment of conditions.

Counsel for the State also indicates that two other groups are already conducting public demonstrations in the same premises. The same shall be placed before the Joint Commissioner, who will take an informed decision in the matter.

With the aforesaid observations, the writ petition is disposed of.

There will be no order as to costs.
