The present writ petition arises out of an order dated 15th May, 2024 passed by the learned Tribunal in the original application (in short, OA) being OA 954 of 2024 (LRTT).

Mr. Basu, learned advocate appearing for the petitioners submits that by the order dated 15th May, 2024, the hearing of the OA on the point of maintainability has been deferred and fixed about ten months thereafter on 24th March, 2025. Such delay in fixing a date of hearing is too long in a system where justice is supposed to be swift. In view thereof, Mr. Basu prays for issuance of necessary direction upon the learned Tribunal for expeditious disposal of the OA.

Mr. Siddiqui, learned Additional Government Pleader, enters appearance on behalf of the State respondents. We have heard the learned advocates appearing for the respective parties and considered the materials on record.

It is for the learned Tribunal to regulate its own procedures in respect of the cases on Board for effective disposal and to ensure that the cases are disposed of within a reasonable period of time.

In view thereof, the present writ petition is disposed of directing the learned Tribunal to make a sincere endeavour to dispose of the OA on the returnable date i.e. 24th March, 2025 or as expeditiously as possible, within three months thereafter, without granting any unnecessary adjournment to either of the parties.

There shall, however, be no order as to costs. Urgent photostat certified copy of this order, if applied for, be given to the learned advocates for the parties.
